We all need to get some fresh air from time to time. One of the best park to spend a nice Sunday afternoon in family or with friends or even just by yourself. Yeouido Hangang Park is located along the Han River in the Yeouido Island in the middle of Seoul. To get there take the subway line 5 to Yeouinaru Station, and head to either exit 2 or 3. Today, I will recommend 5 things to do in Yeouido Hangang Park.
1. RENT A BIKE
Do you love sport ? Even if you are not a big fan, it’s always nice to do a little bit of exercises. Get inside the park and rent a bike for 1 or 2 hours and follow the river to explore the park. If you are going there with one friend or in couple you can also rent a tandem bike. Usually, one hour rental is 3.000 won.
Along the way, you might find some artistic sculpture. For example, if you have seen the famous korean movie “The Host”, you can find a statue of the monster in the middle of the park.
2. PLAY IN FOUNTAINS
This activity is mainly for end of spring and summer. When you go down the stairs on your left you will find a small stream. Remove your shoes and walk in the stream. At the end of the way, you will find a much bigger fountain where many kids should be already playing. This attraction is the best for a good refreshment during the korean hot summer.
If you are not a fan of water game you can just sit next to the area and enjoy the laugh of the kids playing.
3. ORDER CHIMAEK
This activity can be done on any nice day of the year and it’s the most famous thing to do in this park ! To do it korean style, outside of the station, many older women “ahjumma’s” will be handing flyer to you with menus of various fried chicken restaurant and pizzeria. It’s the two most common dish that you can order to eat in the park. If you can’t order by calling the restaurant, the tips is that on top of every convenience store in the park you will find chicken and pizza. The price is a bit higher than the delivery but if you do not speak korean it can be pretty helpful !
To go with it, you can get beer in the convenience store. If you then have chicken + beer, you can officially said that you had “chimaek” at the Han River. (chi = chicken maek = maekju is the word for beer in korean). You do not have to drink alcohol there you can also get coke, water etc.
If you are planning of having food or just sit on the grass it’s highly recommended to bring a mat. You can either buy one in advance in Daiso, or some stand next to the park are selling some to.
4. VISIT YEOUIDO PARK
Before or after going to the park near the river, you should really try to visit the park that is in the middle of the Yeouido Island. This park is not as famous as the one near the river so it’s more quiet but it’s also very pretty. You can sit under the trees, enjoy the view of such greenery in middle of huge building.
This park is divided in 4 areas : The Traditional Korean Forest, The Grass Square, Culture Square and The Nature’s Ecosystem Forest. It will take you from 1 to 2 hours to visit the park.
To find the main entrance go to: 68 Yeouigongwon-ro, Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.
5. ENJOY VARIOUS FESTIVAL & EVENTS
This park always have something happening (except during Covid-19 because all festival are cancelled). During summer, you can find the street food festival. In Spring, it’s the famous Cherry Blossom Festival, be careful the place get more crowded than usual. There always something happening in the park !
