Surgical masks have been a large part of our daily life for almost a year now. Wearing a mask can’t stop us from wearing makeup, though, and who enjoys having a whole face of makeup transfer onto the inside of your mask? While most of us try to make the best of it by applying a light sheen of powder, not much could be done about lip makeup. I used to hate taking my mask off and seeing my color of choice of the day smudged onto it – until now.
Korean beauty is famous worldwide, known for its innovative technology, affordable prices and high quality. Beauty brands here are also very knowledgeable on trends, updating their product lines every so often. A year into the pandemic, and a lot of them have now come up with appropriate new lip products, all designed to stay on your lips and not on your mask – just what we all needed. Here are some of our favorites from the range.
Bbia’s Never Die Tint
Loved by school-going teenagers and office workers alike for their affordable pricing and beautiful shades, Bbia was one of the fastest brands to release their mask-proof offering – the aptly named Never Die tint. Available in five highly-saturated shades, the tint promises a moisturizing finish on first application that then dries down to become a matte finish that doesn’t budge, yet doesn’t dry lips out. This is a large upgrade from the water tints popular among the Korean beauty market in the mid-2010s, which stayed forever but were painfully drying on one’s lips – the comfortable feeling the Never Die tints provide are sure to satisfy any beauty lover.
Priced at an affordable 11,000won, this product is a worthy purchase for anyone who enjoys brighter colors and a non-drying finish. Choose from two nude shades, one orange-based and the other leaning closer to a cool pink; a deep burgundy red, and two bright reds. Perfect for a pop of color suitable for everyday use.
Bbia’s Never Die tints are available for purchase at LOHB’s, as well as their official online store.
3CE’s Blur Water Tint
This next product is nothing short of revolutionary – many described it as a texture they had never seen before. Given that, many reviewers do admit that this particular tint has distinctive advantages and disadvantages – those who like this tint are sure to love it, but those who dislike it will really hate it. The texture in question is close to a water-gel formula – moisturizing on first application and mattifying quickly, becoming a stain that persistently stays on.
Nevertheless, true to classic 3CE style, the colors are unique and unlike any other featured here; if you enjoy using and discovering niche, lesser seen colors, you might like 3CE’s lineup for this collection. Available for purchase at 15,000won, 3CE shows off its distinct style through 10 unique colors. Ranging from calm orange to bright pink, there’s sure to be a color for everyone. An especially noteworthy color is Laydown – a calm, peachy nude color proving to be the fan favorite of this collection.
3CE’s Blur Water Tint is available for purchase at Olive Young, as well as 3CE’s physical and online stores.
Peripera’s Ink Mood Matte Tint
A brand practically synonymous with tints, Peripera is one of the K-Beauty brands most well-known and loved by the public. Following the initial success of their Ink Velvet line, their successive lip products never disappoint – and the same goes true with their most recent offering, the Ink Mood Matte tint. This product is said to have an ultra-comfortable texture close to that of the classic blur tints popularized in recent years – the softness of the texture allows for an easy gradation lip, and helps create a softer, blurry color payoff not unlike watercolor. It’s also matte, but not painfully so, which is a plus point for those with dry lips. It’s also completely mask-proof; wear without worry.

The Ink Mood Matte tints are the cheapest tints featured today, priced at an affordable 10,000won and released in 5 different colorways distinctly calmer than Peripera’s usual style. Choose from a muted orange-beige, a striking plum pink, a soft muted pink, a warm orange and a classic red.
Peripera’s Ink Mood Matte Tint is available for purchase at Olive Young, as well as their parent company Club Clio’s online and offline stores.
Etude House’s Fixing Tint
The latest addition to the mix, Etude House’s Fixing Tint is enjoying an insane popularity, selling out from Olive Young stores on its very first day on the shelves. And for good reason – the newly-created texture is so good it’ll keep you reaching for it again and again. Applying thinly at first and then settling into a comfortably matte layer on your lips, this product is both beautiful and easy-to-use. It dries quickly, but not so quickly that you need to take special care during application. Best of all, it doesn’t transfer at all.
The Fixing Tint is available in five attractive colors, including three red-based shades, a chic sandy beige, and a gentle mauvey pink. The last of the colors, Midnight Mauve, deserves special attention – it gives off a gentle, sophisticated air to the wearer, and goes well with any makeup style. Available at a reasonable 12,000won, it is certainly one to try out if you’re looking for a lip product that’ll stay all day.
Etude House’s Fixing Tints are available at Olive Young, as well as Etude House’s online and offline stores.
Lip products are a must for any beauty lover, mask or not – these new additions to the K-Beauty market are sure to serve you well during the pandemic. Though we all miss the times we used to roam around mask-free, it’s way better to keep it on and keep ourselves and our loved ones safe – albeit with a killer lip color on underneath.
